#1 Mistake You Should Never Make In Advertising Your Products or Service
I was out the other day with the family and I drove past a billboard for a car dealership and I just shook my head.
This is what it said…
“ALL STOCK MUST GO”
Now I’m sure they didn’t give much thought to this as seriously!… all stock must go?
This is a classic mistake that you often see companies make when they are trying to sell.
They talk about their problem vs the customers problem and pain.
You would be surprised how often this is done. People are so close to their product and service that they lose sight of what really matters to the consumer.
Do you really think consumers give a rats ass about how their stock must go?
It’s important to realize a few truths and they might sound harsh but… well it’s the truth.
And those who accept them, I have found produce products, services and ads that cater to people vs their own ego.
Here they are…
- No one cares about your difficulty shifting product. (your problem)
- No one cares about how great your product or service is (there are many others to choose from)
- No one cares about how long you took to make it (really they don’t)
- No one cares about your nifty idea (ideas areĀ a dime a dozen)
- No one cares about the grinning sales man and his attempt to pretend he cares ( people aren’t stupid they know when people are being fake)
…the plain fact is…
All that people care about is… THEMSELVES!! Their Needs, Their Wants, Their Selfish desires, Their basic primal drives
And unless you can tap into that. You are going to do little in the way of drawing people in, let alone getting them to buy
So before you go making that product or service and before you write one single word of copy
Ask yourself, are you offering a solution to their problem or yours?
